Hello

Just wondered if anyone could answer some questions regarding a Diploma in Fitness course I want to do

First of all, im now 30 years of age and was hoping to get into the fitness industry. I started along time ago when I was 17 and for silly reasons went into other jobs mainly for money reasons. Looking back I wish I stayed where I was. Thats why I've contacted you.

I've seen a 2 year Diploma course which I lilke the look of. The only thing is, its in Australia. You're probably thinking while go all that way?.. Being in a dead end job for the last 7 years I saved alot & thought why not as long as it's a very good course & it would be recognised here.. Do you have any idea about this & also what is you're opinion on my choice to do it this way?

My main goal to become a personal trainer in the end. If you need to have a look at the units i'll be studying I could forward it on so you can see.

Thanks alot
Gaz

Hi Gary

welcome to PTHub

great idea to go and study overseas
but if you have saved enough money to get qualified, i'd choose one of the more recognised courses here and then travel to Australia to use your qualififcations and gain your experience

you could do an intensive short course here taking around 12 weeks, getting you fully qualified and then contact gyms in Australia to go and work in and gain that experience

on the flip side, if you want to relocate overseas, why not just do a fitness instructor course here first, then go to Aus' and do the personal training elements there whilst working?

which ever you decide to do, good luck!

Hi Chris

Thanks for your reply

I definately had my heart set on going for the 2 year course. I did look into working out there, but because it's not a skill in demand it would be hard to get a visa or sponsorship.

Could you tell me, If I completed the course would the qualification be recognised over here. The university seems to think so but I just want to make sure from qualified people here

Thanks

Hi Gary

From experience as a club manager, i have in the past employed personal trainers with many different qualifications from all over the world. The best advice here is that if REPs recognise the qualification then most major chains will accept it as many base there employment criteria on REPs Levels 1,2 and 3

REPs details for overseas courses can be found by clicking here (http://www.exerciseregister.org/custom/REPsInternational.htm)

A lot of the major health club chains also recognise other overseas training providers, such as CHEK (Paul Chek (http://www.paulchek.com/) is a USA based Personal Training Guru who offers advanced personal training courses) and ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine (http://www.acsm.org) ). I know when i worked for Virgin Active they were very keen on ACSM qualifications

which course is it that you're doing? who's the training provider?
