Hi there,
I'm a writer for gymsinlondon.com and we're in the process of creating a guide to the best and worst workout habits. I was wondering if any of the PT's on this forum had any short and snappy hints or tips for beginner gym-goers. Please feel free to drop me a line at geehcopy(at)gmail.com or reply to this thread. Just to give you an idea, some of the topics covered in the guide will be; Motivation Consistency Rest Nutrition |

great feedback liam!
![]() i'd recommend a couple of quick things... Set goals (both short term and long term and reward yourself when achieving them) Dont destroy your week day workouts by binging on the weekend! and a controversial one... Dont train with a friend! unless you have exactly the same goals!!!!! easy mistake to do!

Some of the worst workout habits?
Most people use too many machine-based exercises that fail to train the body the way it was meant to function...multiple planes of movement. As a result muscle imbalances occur along with decreased core strength, balance & coordination, injuries occur more frequently making it difficult to achieve fitness goals. All of this despite the increasing number of machines designed to safely perform movements. The same goes for cardio...The majority of people spend far too much time doing cardio in their 'fat burning zone'. The reality is that for most it takes between 9-10 hours of cardio to burn just 1 lb of fat! A lot of work and little return on your 'investment'. I recently posted a video on running for weight loss and I discussed some surprising statistics: Should You Lose Weight Running Or Not? | Functional Training Coach.com I hope this helps, Kevin Yates
